Jean-Luc Beylat’s biography
President of Alcatel Lucent Bell Labs France
Jean-Luc Beylat is the president of Alcatel-Lucent Bell Labs France. Before this position, he was vice-president, responsible for coordinating the Alcatel-Lucent strategic R&D partnership programs. He then became Vice-president for the Bell Labs industrial partners.
Jean-Luc joined Alcatel in 1984 and worked for seven years on laser diodes at the Alcatel research centre in Marcoussis (France). In 1992, he promoted Alcatel’s WDM transmission activity and also managed a group of researchers on optical gain. In 1996, he was nominated Director of the Optical systems and networks department at the Alcatel research centre, responsible – on an international level – for the research activities in ground and submarine transmissions. In 2000, he rejoined the Alcatel Optical activity group as Programme
Director and then Vice President of network solutions. Here, he was a key contributor for considerably improving the optical product line with optimum costs and content, and has kept Alcatel the number one
international business in the optical networks field since 2001. In November, 2005, Jean-Luc joined the CTO team of Alcatel to develop R&D partnerships. He is the program director of TVMSL (TéléVision Mobile Sans Limite), one of the first programs chosen by the Industrial Innovation Agency in France.
Jean-Luc Beylat has a PhD on laser diodes and their applications from the Pierre and Marie Curie University in Paris, France. He is the author or co-author of over fifty technical articles and boasts fifteen registered patents. He has several times been President of international conferences such as ECOC in 2006. Jean-Luc Beylat is Vicepresident of the System@tic Paris region cluster, in charge of international development and strategy. He is also President of the Jean Jerphagnon Organization Committee (awarding innovative technical concepts in the field of optics and photonics).
